OVERVIEW OF CONTENT
When you enter Phonicszone, you are given 2 options:
Phonics for Native Speakers		English as a Foreign Language
This area supports the LETTERS AND SOUNDS phonics programme in the UK. LETTERS AND SOUNDS is published by the “Primary National Strategy” and aims at enabling children to start learning phonic knowledge and skills systematically by the age of five with the expectation that they will be fluent readers; having secured word recognition skills by the end of Key Stage 1 (age of seven).		This area supports the teaching of phonics for EFL learners around the world. The approach to phonics is essentially synthetic and after developing letter recognition skills, it focuses on the 44 phonemes of the English language, linking each phoneme to possible graphemes through a bank of relevant key-words.

HOW TO USE A ZONE OR UNIT
Click on rectangular icons to access stories, songs and poems related to a sound. You should explore these activities first. Click on a bean-shaped icon to access a game related to the sound. Click on a page-shaped icon to download an activity sheet or flashcard in pdf format. You can save it to your hard drive and print it.		Symbol for an interactive flashcard. Click the sound symbol to hear it. Click the pictures to hear the words. Click this icon to play a game related to the sounds you have just learnt. Click this icon to download and print a mini test related to the sounds you have learnt. You can check your results against the words on the interactive flashcard.

KEY TO SYMBOLS IN ANIMATIONS
	PLAY Click on this button to start a game or make a story progress.		BACK Click this button to go back a scene in a story, to reload a game or to restart a song.
	BACK TO START (Stories) This button appears at the end of stories. Click it to replay the animation from the beginning.		NO TEXT (Songs) This button exists in many animated songs. Click it to hide the text. Click it a second time to show the text again.
	QUIT This button appears at the end of stories or when you have won a game. Click it to quit the activity.
